CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - The members of Coastal Carolina University's music faculty will give a recital celebrating the 200th birthday anniversary of Chopin and Schuman at 7:30 p.m. on March 11 in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

General admission is $3; children 10 and under are admitted free, but must be accompanied by an adult.

Amy Hardison Tully, assistant professor of music, will play the flute, and Phillip Powell, professor of music, will play the piano. The recital will celebrate the 200th birthday anniversary of composers Frederick Chopin (1810-1849) and Robert Schuman (1810-1856). The program will feature flute and piano works by these composers and other composers.

Tully performs as an orchestral, chamber and solo artist and is praised for her shimmering tone and flawless technique. She is principal flutist with the Long Bay Symphony in Myrtle Beach, and associate principal with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra in Fayetteville, N.C.

Tully earned a bachelor's degree, cum laude, in flute performance from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. She earned a master of music degree in musicology from Northwestern University, and a doctor of musical arts degree in flute performance from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Powell joined the University faculty in 1988. He has served as president of the Coastal Concert Association, music director of the Festival of Music and Art at Pawley's Island, founding director of the Musicale de Geneve series and a member of the board of directors of the Long Bay Symphony. Powell earned a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Oklahoma, and master of music and doctorate of music degrees from Indiana University.
