CHARLOTTE, NC – Coastal Carolina redshirt senior forward Joseph Harris has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while teammate Danny Nieman has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Feb. 1-7.
Harris averaged 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 72.0 percent from the field (18-of-25) in two Big South wins last week. He scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the 96-60 win over Gardner-Webb on Feb. 4, as he hit 8-of-10 from the field and corralled seven defensive boards in just 24 minutes of action.
Harris then tied his season-high with 24 points in the Chanticleers' 98-62 victory over UNC Asheville on Feb. 6. He added nine rebounds, three steals and two assists in the win.
Nieman came off the bench to average 11.5 points, 7.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in Coastal Carolina's two wins last week – well above his season averages of 5.8 points, 3.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds entering the games.
In the Chants' victory over Gardner-Webb, Nieman scored 13 points and dished out six assists, in addition to going 5-of-8 from the field and grabbing four rebounds. Against UNC Asheville, he handed out a season-high nine assists to go along with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals.
For the week, Nieman was 10-of-16 from the floor and committed just two turnovers in 50 minutes of action.
