SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A public official in the town of Surfside Beach is in trouble with the law after police say he violated an alcohol law on Dec. 30.
Surfside Beach Public Works Director Robert "Ty" Taylor was arrested by Surfside Beach Police after a person reported a white truck was driving erratically on the beach in the area of 14th Avenue North. Witness reports reveal the man, later identified as Taylor, was screaming out the window and drinking.
As police approached the car, an officer observed Taylor drinking a beer. When he was asked to exit the car, police report the director became upset with the police officer, and further discussion between the two revealed Taylor had been drinking and driving along the beach for more than two years.
Taylor was able to successfully complete an on-site field sobriety test, but was arrested for having an open beer container inside of his vehicle.
Taylor was later charged with open container of beer or wine inside of a vehicle.
