
FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The search for a missing 4-year-old of the Scranton area of Florence County is over. Authorities say they have found the boy and he is headed to the hospital for evaluation.
"We doubled our efforts this morning and we're just pleased to report a fabulous result and obviously a Christmas miracle," said Mike Nunn of the Florence County Sheriff's Office.
According to authorities, Traey McGee, who turned 4 two weeks ago was playing in a wooded area behind his house when his mother noticed him missing around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. After the family searched for about an hour they called police who searched with bloodhounds and a SLED helicopter last night.
Several deputies and EMS workers were on standby last night and continued the search Thursday morning at day break.
Police searched an area that is described as thick woods near his home on North Matthews Rd. on Thursday morning. McGee was found around 10:00 a.m., 17 hours after he disappeared, by one of the searchers. Officials said McGee was alert and conscious and taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.
