PELZER, S.C. (AP) - Christmas tree growers in South Carolina are making the holidays a bit merrier for troops by donating Christmas trees to military families.
It's part of the nationwide "Trees for Troops" effort and a truck with donated trees leaves a tree plantation in Pelzer, S.C., on Tuesday.
A vet from the war on terror loads the last tree on the truck in honor of all families who lost a loved one in the conflict in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The South Carolina Agriculture Department says the trees go to military families at bases both in this country and overseas.
Last year, more than 17,000 trees were donated by more than 700 tree farms in 29 states.
