CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A former North Carolina television sports broadcaster has entered the run for Congress.
Retired WSOC-TV personality Harold Johnson has announced he'll run for the 8th Congressional District currently held by Democrat Larry Kissell. He's 1 of 4 announced Republican candidates to date.
Johnson lives in Statesville and told The Charlotte Observer he'll move to Cabarrus County to live in the district.
One primary rival - Tim D'Annunzio of Raeford - said on his Web site voters should be offended a candidate who hasn't lived in the district is trying to represent them in Washington. Johnson said in response he's always taken the high road.
The 68-year-old Johnson worked at WSOC for 26 years before retiring in 2006.
