COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - Dillon defended its crown Saturday with a 21-20 victory over Pageland Central at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia in the Class AA, Division I state championships.
It was the Wildcats' second championship win in as many years over the Eagles. Dillon topped Central last year, 7-6.
The Wildcats (12-2) built a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter on Desmond Hayes' four-yard run and a 14-yard scoring pass from Tyquan Hayes to Quincy Bethea.
Central (11-3) began a comeback to make it 14-8 at the half. But Dillon's Jabo Lee raced 61 yards with 11 minutes to go in the third to boost the Wildcats to 21-8.
Radford Robinson had two scoring runs that brought the Eagles to within one with seven minutes to play, but they could get no closer.
