Carolina Master Chorale sings in the holidays

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Carolina Master Chorale of Myrtle Beach is presenting its annual Christmas program in Myrtle Beach and Sunset Beach in December.

The choir, directed by Dr. Timothy Koch, is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Myrtle Beach, and at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at Calabash Presbyterian Church in Sunset Beach, NC.

The featured work on this concert will be the world premiere of An Outbreak of Peace by CMC Composer in Residence Dr. Andrew Fowler. Fowler's new work is an oratorio, a musical setting of a sacred or semi-sacred story which has its roots in much earlier pieces like Handel's Messiah.

An Outbreak of Peace is a musical telling of the Christmas Eve truce of 1914 when a single German soldier began singing Silent Night in his native tongue and climbed from the trenches to approach the Allied forces with a white truce sign and a Christmas tree shining with candles.

Soon soldiers from both sides joined together, exchanging chocolate, showing each other photographs from home, and keeping Christmas until dawn, when all returned to their separate trenches and battle.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. To purchase advance tickets, call the Chorale office at 843-444-5774.
