PEMBROKE, NC – Junior swingman Simel Boyd scored a season-high 27 points and senior guard Kendrick Robinson tallied a career-high 21 to lead Francis Marion University past St. Andrews Presbyterian College 89-68, Saturday afternoon (Nov. 21) in the third game of the UNC Pembroke Classic.

Francis Marion stays unbeaten at 5-0, while the Knights drop to 1-2.  The Patriots have won their last 15 games against non-conference opponents dating back to 2007.

FMU will next play at The Apprentice School in Newport News, Va., on Tuesday evening (Nov. 24) at 6 p.m.

Boyd connected on 12-of-19 shots and also grabbed eight rebounds, while coming within one point of his career high.  Robinson made 8-of-10 shots in only 25 minutes of action.  Junior 6-8 forward Robert Faulkner added 13 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists.

Zack Garst and Kurt Fenderbosch led St. Andrews with 15 points each, while forward Marvin Jackson added 11 points and six rebounds.

St. Andrews led through much of the early going.  A Faulkner layup with 6:55 left in the first stanza gave the Patriots the lead for good at 23-22.  Leading by a single point at 25-24, Francis Marion outscored the Knights 15-6 over the final 5:07 of the half to lead 40-30 at intermission.

The margin was still 10 points (54-44) with 14 minutes remaining when a Boyd jumper, a three-pointer by Kaylan Anderson, and a dunk by Edward Gullate expanded the Patriot lead to 61-44.  A three-pointer by Boyd upped the FMU lead to 73-51 with 7:04 left on the clock.

Francis Marion shot a sizzling 60 percent from the field (21 of 35) over the final 20 minutes, while holding St. Andrews to just 37.9 percent.  FMU ended the game with a season-high 55.9 percent shooting percentage and outrebounded the Knights 47-28.  The Patriots led in points-in-the-paint 56-26, while blanking the Knights in fast-break points 14-0.
