CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Students enrolled in the civil engineering and construction management programs at Horry Georgetown Technical College say they have the skills it takes to perform well at any company, including Boeing's new airline plant in North Charleston.

The new plant is projected to be bringing thousands of highly skilled jobs to the region, and administrators with HGTC say they are confident their students can fill those positions.

Professor Suliban Deaza says the skills his students learn transcend a variety of industries.

"They learn design in different fields like airplanes, boats, houses, different types of things," explained Deaza.  "They can incorporate those skills into any company."

Cameron Harrington, a construction management major at HGTC, says Boeing's new plant could not come at a better time.

"With the construction industry the way it is there's not a lot of construction jobs," said Harrington.  "Those jobs can range from the design to the finish and I think it will help out."

The new Boeing plant is expected to be fully operational in 2012.
