LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) - New numbers show that the Palmetto State's unemployment is now at 12.1 percent, but a new store now open in Horry County could help make a small dent in the problem.

A new Goodwill store opened Friday on Highway 9 in Little River.

The store has hired 42 people to work at this store, but they're also opening a Job Link Center to help others find work. Store Manager Ralph Gentry says they plan to set up computers and offer resume classes to help even more people than that find jobs.

"People can come in, go online, look for jobs," said Gentry. "We help people with their resumes, help people search for jobs, so that's a great service that Goodwill provides."

Robert Smith, President & CEO of Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina, says the Job Link Center will be opened up in the next few months.

"Long term, what we're going to be able to do here is to help people who are unemployed get back up on their feet through all our programs and services, and we're really excited about that," said Smith.

Smith also says they're looking in the Carolina Forest area to open another Goodwill store with the possibility of an additional Job Link office.
