CAMDEN, SC (WIS) - Camden police say when they pulled over a man driving his car he took off and he left his 7-year-old son behind.
"It really just began from just a basic traffic stop, that resulted in the officer being able to smell marijuana," said Chief Joe Floyd.
Police say they found 16 bags of marijuana in the trunk of 27-year-old Henry Stover's car.
They say Stover had the marijuana in his car while he was driving his young son around late Saturday night.
While police search for his father, the little boy just wants to go home.
We tried to find Stover, but he wasn't at his place of residence. The people that were home called him for us.
He wouldn't comment about leaving his son on the side of the road.
"But just for him to take off and leave and in what our opinion was to abandon the child, but beyond abandonment, it was a fairly traumatic experience for this child," said Floyd.
The female officer stayed with the child the entire time calming him down.
The little boy is at home safe with his mother now.
As for Stover, he's facing possession with intent to distribute marijuana and child abandonment charges. He's also out of jail on a $20,000 bond.
