Domino game dispute prompts SC jail beating

Associated Press - November 19, 2009 10:15 AM ET

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have accused a South Carolina man in jail on a murder charge of severely beating a fellow inmate after an argument during a game of dominoes.

Investigators told The Item of Sumter that 25-year-old Kareem Hickman punched 41-year-old Rickey McCray during a domino game with several other inmates Monday at the Sumter County jail.

Authorities say Hickman then stomped McCray in the head several times.

McCray's family says he has been in a coma at a Columbia hospital since the beating.

Police said Hickman was in jail, accused of shooting and killing his brother in September in a fight over $15.

It wasn't immediately clear if Hickman had an attorney.
