MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - The granddaughter of Baron and Marion von Trapp, who were made famous by The Sound of Music, is in concert in Murrells Inlet on Sunday, Dec. 13.
A Von Trapp Christmas, featuring the stylings of Elisabeth von Trapp, is in concert at 6 p.m. at the Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. Limited seating is available; tickets are $10.
For Elisabeth von Trapp, the sounds of Christmas music are part of her earliest memories. Whether they were from the Baroque instruments and four-part harmonies of the family choir, the Trapp Family Singers, or carols played on a collection of musical instruments in the living room during the Christmas season, music was always present.
"We sang at church, school programs, special community events and weddings," she recalled. "None of these occasions, however, compared to the Advent season before Christmas, when the house was filled with friends and relatives, and our farmhouse seemed to overflow with music."
The concert will feature a collection of carols and songs that, for years, have helped her pause and listen, recalling the meaning of the first Christmas, including ballads and traditional holiday music, as well as Austrian, English and French carols.
Elisabeth von Trapp will also share stories of Christmas in the Von Trapp household, plus the folkways of their native Austria. During this holiday performance, she is joined by her long-time musical colleague, Erich Kory, on the cello.
