AIKEN, SC (WIS) - An Aiken woman is in jail thanks to a tipster, after public safety officials say the woman tried to run over an officer with her car.

Merita S. Carter, 40, is charged with assault with intent to kill, reckless driving and speeding. Aiken Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lt. David Turno said Carter was arrested thanks to a citizen tip.

According to a warrant for Carter's arrest, the incident happened Tuesday morning in the parking lot of Maria's Restaurant, at the intersection of East Pine Log Road and Powderhouse Road.

The warrant says Carter drove away in her Nissan Sentra, turned around and drove directly at Officer Kenneth Leonard.
