
RALEIGH, NC (WMBF) - Operation Slow Down kicked off in North Carolina Monday amidst a statewide effort to crack down on speeding.
On Wednesday, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Governor's Highway Safety Program will hold an event to start the program, beginning at 10 a.m. Guest speakers include Secretary of Crime Control and Public Safety Reuben Young and NCHP Commander Col. Randy Glover.
Following the event, the Wake County Traffic Safety Task Force will set up a "No Wake Zone" on Interstate 40 in Wake County. Twenty officers from the Highway Patrol, Wake County Sheriff’s Office, Cary Police Department, Garner Police Department, Holly Springs Police Department, Knightdale Police Department, Morrisville Police Department, Raleigh Police Department and Wendell Police Department will be on the interstate using lidars and radars to catch speeders.
