WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - A movie about the founder of the Methodist movement will premiere in Winston-Salem, where its director found many useful landmarks for scenes.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported that the Rev. John Jackman directed the movie "Wesley." It premieres at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Stevens Center.
Old Salem and Bethabara play prominent roles in the film, as do Salem College and several churches.
The movie tells the story of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement. It focuses on his life from 1736 to 1742 as Wesley realizes he should focus on helping the downtrodden.
The film will have its world premiere Saturday, then play a few limited-release screenings. Jackman is talking with distributors about getting the film into wider distribution.
