CHATHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) – It was a close call for one tour bus driver when his bus caught fire along I-95 in Chatham County.
Charred metal is all that remains of the 60-person tour bus. Pooler firefighters arrived at I-95 southbound near I-16 around 11pm Wednesday to find the bus completely engulfed in flames.
It took them about 20 minutes to put out the fire. The bus driver, Charles Cheek from Greensboro, North Carolina, was the only person on board and he made it out safely.
Firefighters and the Georgia State Patrol believe the fire may have started in the bus' rear axle. They say they're lucky the bus did not explode.
