MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The search by Coast RTA to hire a Sandy Island ferry boat operator will take a bit longer.
Coast RTA Director Myers Rollins says the company's board decided to cancel the current selection process because the efforts to find potential ferry boat operators resulted in only one bid.
Rollins says the decision was made "in the interest of encouraging more open competition."
Coast RTA may be looking to rebid the contract.
According to Rollins, he and Georgetown County Administrator Sel Hemingway will offer recommendations to a committee on how to move forward.
They hope that through brainstorming the committee will come up with ways to encourage other bids.
