GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - One person was killed Saturday in a fatal crash in Georgetown County when the vehicle she was driving careened off the road and hit a tree.

The crash happened on Wedgefield Road about 3.5 miles north of Georgetown in the Wedgefield Plantation. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a Toyota Camry was eastbound when it left the road and hit a tree.

Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson said the driver, Brenda Johnson, 63, died. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The SCHP says Johnson was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
