MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Two South Carolina aviation companies say they are entering into a joint venture that will mean 50 new jobs for the Myrtle Beach area.
AvCraft Support Services and Industrial Aeronautica announced Tuesday that federal regulators have given them approval to perform heavy maintenance on two kinds of twin-turboprop short-haul regional airliners.
AvCraft General Manager Mike Hill says his company could also soon benefit from other recent developments in South Carolina's aviation industry.
The news of additional jobs to the Grand Strand comes less than a week after aircraft-giant, Boeing Co., announced it plans to build a new line of planes at a North Charleston factory, bringing with it thousands of jobs.
"What Myrtle Beach has is really remarkable - an unusual amount of ramp space where planes could be parked," Sanford said.
Sanford speculated Myrtle Beach could be the location where plane manufacturing could take place for the aviation industry in the future.
"I definitely there is some synergy out there," Sanford said. "Myrtle Beach can absolutely be part of that synergy with last week’s announcement of Boeing."
The reinforcement of jobs to Myrtle Beach is the result of a joint venture between AvCraft and Indaer to provide seamless regional aircraft maintenance to customers throughout the nation.
AvCraft is a privately owned aviation company operating out of the Myrtle Beach International Airport, in a 130,000 square foot facility. Officials add they have no plans for any new construction at their current base in Myrtle Beach.
Jobs will be added to the Myrtle Beach economy throughout the next three years.
