From Francis Marion University:
FLORENCE, SC – Fifth-seeded Francis Marion University will travel west on Interstate 20 to play at the University of Montevallo on Tuesday evening in a first-round match of the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament.
The match will kick off at 7 p.m. on Montevallo’s Varsity Field.
Three other first-round tournament matches will also take place on Tuesday at campus sites across the PBC. The first-round winners will advance to the tournament semifinals to be played on Friday evening at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, GA.
Francis Marion ended its regular season with an 11-4-3 overall record and a 4-2-2 PBC mark. The Falcons finished one spot ahead of the Patriots in the conference standings thanks to a 2-0 win over FMU in Florence on Oct. 3.
Senior midfielder Kyle Clinton leads the Patriots in scoring with seven goals and four assists, while junior midfielder Chris Foltanski has tallied six goals and three assists.
Francis Marion junior goalkeeper Clark Richeson leads the PBC in goals against average (0.81), save percentage (.866), and saves per game (5.39), while posting six complete-match shutouts in 2009.
Francis Marion won the 2008 PBC regular-season and tournament titles and advanced to the second round of last year’s NCAA Division II Tournament. FMU’s loss to Montevallo in October and last Saturday’s road loss to Flagler College are the only defeats in the Patriots’ last 15 conference matches.
