SC employment agency, lawmakers host jobs forum

Associated Press - October 31, 2009 4:05 AM ET

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's employment agency is hitting the road to help jobseekers connect with employers.

State Sens. Wes Hayes and Mick Mulvaney and state Reps. Deborah Long and Jimmy Neal are getting together with representatives from the South Carolina Employment Security Commission on Saturday for a jobs fair at York Technical College in Rock Hill.

Organizers hope jobseekers from Chester, Lancaster and York counties will come for information to help them with their searches. The commission has held other jobs forums in counties across the state.

South Carolina's unemployment rate in August was 11.5 percent, the second straight month the number fell. Still, the state rate was significantly above the national jobless rate of 9.7 percent.
