Former SC worker at SRS sues for discrimination

Associated Press - October 30, 2009 11:25 AM ET

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - A former South Carolina worker at the Savannah River Site has filed a federal lawsuit, claiming racial and religious discrimination by co-workers.

The Aiken Standard reported Friday that 41-year-old Al Zeiny sued his former employer in U.S. District Court in Aiken. The Egyptian native was lead structural engineer at Washington Safety Management Solutions.

The lawsuit states that co-workers said Zeiny was linked to terrorism and bomb-making after a conversation about him being a Muslim. Zeiny says he was fired after he filed a complaint.

Washington Safety Management Solutions is part of the engineering and construction company URS Corp. A spokeswoman said Friday that the company does not usually comment on legal or personnel matters.
