BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - Bennettsville Police investigated a bomb threat at a Marlboro County school that forced the evacuation of 1,300 students Thursday morning.
Bennettsville Police Chief Larry McNeil said the threat was called into Marlboro County High School Thursday morning; however, by 11:30 a.m. school operations had returned to normal.
McNeil said a caller notified authorities a bomb was in the building. Bomb crews evacuated the school at 951 Fayetteville Ave. Ext. and teams searched the building, but found nothing.
Marlboro County School District spokesman Randall Malichi said the studnets were evacuated to designated spots on the campus, away from the building, while crews searched for the reported bomb.
Thursday's threat is the second such incident at Marlboro County High School since September.
