DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - Officials in Darlington County say a manhunt has ended for a man they believed to have been involved in a home invasion near Society Hill on Friday.

According to the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a home in reference to a home invasion, where the suspect fled from the scene in an unknown direction. While on the way to the call, a deputy passed the suspect, turned his vehicle around and witnessed the suspect run into a wooded area off of Church Street.

As a result of the manhunt, Rosenwald Elementary School was on lockdown for most of the day Friday. Children were released at the regular dismissal time.

The suspect, who deputies identified as Derrick Ramone Lee, was identified by a resident from a mugshot on TV. The resident called local law enforcement regarding a tip on his whereabouts, and Lee was arrested shortly thereafter.

Lee was taken to an area hospital to receive treatment for non life-threatening injuries. Once released from the hospital, Lee will be transported to jail to face charges of first degree burglary and assault.

Additional charges, according to Capt. Andy Locklair with the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, are pending.
