Posted: Updated:

DILLON, SC (WMBF) - A 5th grade student is recovering in Dillon County after being hit by a school bus early Friday morning.

Dillon County School District 2 Superintendent Ray Rogers says the boy was at his bus stop around 6:45 a.m. on McKenzie Road. Dillon Police add the victim arrived to the bus stop late and was attempting to board the bus when he was hit. The driver, police say, did not see the child.

Rhe Dillon Police Department says the child had been suspended from riding the bus for three days and was not supposed to board the bus Friday.

Rogers reports the child is in good condition at Dillon Medical Center but will need to undergo hip surgery for his injuries.

The child is a student at Gordon Elementary School.
