FMU's Richeson gains PBC weekly GK award

Posted: Updated:

From Francis Marion University:

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior Clark Richeson was named the Peach Belt Conference’s “Goalkeeper of the Week” for the week ending Oct. 11.

Patriot officials also announced that because of wet field conditions and the threat of more precipitation on Wednesday, the Oct. 14 home match against PBC foe UNC Pembroke has been changed to Thursday at 5 p.m. in Pembroke, NC.

Richeson helped lead Francis Marion to a 1-0-1 mark in two matches last week.  This is his second weekly award of 2009 and the fifth time in three seasons he has been honored.

The Mansfield, TX, native made four saves in 76 minutes of action during a 4-0 home win over Newberry College and then registered a season-high 12 saves in Sunday’s 0-0 overtime tie at Clayton State University.  That save total was one shy of his career high set in 2007 also against Clayton State.  He has not allowed a score in his last 207:18, and now has four shutouts this season and 10 in his career.

Richeson leads the conference in goals against average (0.80), save percentage (.872), and saves per match (5.67).

The FMU defense has allowed a conference-low 10 scores in 2009 and sports a PBC-best 0.79 goals against average.

Following Thursday’s match at UNCP, the Patriots will host North Georgia College & State University on Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day.

Richeson was an All-District and All-Region goalkeeper at Summit High School.
