HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - A South Carolina man faces trial on charges stemming from a 2-day standoff with police at a western Maryland motel.
Twenty-7-year-old James Prevatt (pree-VAT') of Moncks Corner, S.C., was set to stand trial Wednesday on more than three dozen charges including burglary, theft, arson threat and drug possession.
Prevatt was arrested by police who stormed his room at the America's Best Value Inn in Hancock in August 2008.
His 22-year-old girlfriend, Rene Reynolds, also of Moncks Corner, is serving a 12-year prison term. She pleaded guilty earlier this year to crimes that included pretending to be Prevatt's hostage while he falsely claimed he had explosives and would kill her and her unborn child if police approached their room.
