COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - Three people were sentenced in federal court Thursday for counterfeit.
Phillip Lee Laney, 27, of Mt. Croghan, was sentenced for manufacturing counterfeit money. Lance Larenta Outen, 20, and David Lee Williams, 26, both of Hartsville, were sentenced for possession of counterfeit money.
Laney was sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years probation; Outen was sentenced to seven months in prison and three years probation; and Williams was sentenced to eight months in prison and three years probation.
Hartsville Police arrested Williams on unrelated charges. During a search, investigators found seven counterfeit $20 bills. Further investigation revealed Laney was manufacturing the counterfeit cash, which was allegedly being used to buy cocaine from Outen.
