FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Florence has a new tool in luring new business to the area. The Florence Industrial Center officially opened for business Wednesday.
Area business owners came out for the occasion and to get a look around. The private real estate investment firm HCP (Hackman Capital Partners) purchased the 422,000-square-foot facility. HCP spokesman Mike Racine says the property was an investment into the community.
"It's great to be a new member of the chamber," Racine said. "It's important for my company to be part of this community and not be an absentee owner. It's really important to bring jobs here and make this a successful business."
This building formerly hosted the Maytag company, and was generally referred to as the old Maytag facility. But Racine says a new name is part of an aggressive plan to reach prospective tenants nationwide.
"It was important to get away from the Maytag facility name so our newest tenant could come in and differentiate themselves," he said.
But who will that tenant be? Racine says it's perfect for another manufacturer or distributor.
The company says they are diligently working with the Chamber and the Economic Development Association in bringing new business and jobs to Florence County.
