video journalist | alaventure@wmbfnews.com

After working in Manhattan at CBS Broadcasting Inc., Alisha Laventure joined the WMBF News Team in June 2010 as a video journalist.

Alisha is a graduate of Washington and Lee University, where she double-majored in Broadcast Journalism and Romance Languages. She is fluent in French, Spanish and Haitian-Creole, and wants to add Italian to the list.

While in college, Alisha had a chance to see the world, studying abroad in Senegal, China, Peru, France, Colombia and Ghana.

"My travels allowed me to meet some extraordinary people, who taught me the true strength of the human spirit," she said. "Their stories remain untold and I just want to share them with the world."

When Alisha isn't toting her tripod around in the Pee Dee, she enjoys reading, rollerblading, biking and laughing out loud with family and friends. She recently discovered the joys of karaoke and cooking Rachel Ray's 30-minute recipes.

  1. If I could be any television character, I would be Xena Warrior Princess - I've pretty much nailed her battle cry.
  2. It would take you a year to figure out I was a baton twirler in the third, fourth and fifth grades.
  3. My most embarrassing moment was a chorus rehearsal in the ninth grade. I was sitting on the top bleacher, fell out of my chair and my feet went over my head. Luckily, I wore pants that day!
  4. My favorite books include Fountain Head, The Da Vinci Code and The Monster At The End Of This Book. It was my favorite bedtime story until I was 10.
  5. My most memorable assignment was when I was interning with Reuters in Bogota, Colombia the summer when 15 high-profile hostages were released from the FARC. Hours after they were freed, I was sent to cover a press conference given by the U.S. Ambassador.
  6. My least favorite sound is a tie between my morning alarm clock and when my GPS system says "recalculating."
  7. I am the happiest when I am playing board games with a group of friends, while gorging on pizza and chocolate chip cookies.
