CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A search party is in Francis Marion Forest in Charleston County, as well as the Santee River hoping to find a missing 17-year-old girl.

Thursday night, members of that search party were at Thornhill Farm off Highway 17 in McClellanville. The farm is serving as the staging area for the expanded search for Brittanee Drexel. Law enforcement officers from across the Lowcountry and the Grand Strand are planning to meet there Friday morning.

Two horses have been brought to Thornhill Farm to be used in the search.

A spokeswoman for the farm says they were contacted by search parties Thursday morning.

Drexel was last seen more than a week ago leaving a Myrtle Beach hotel. Authorities say her cell phone signal hit a tower in an area of Georgetown County near the Santee River.

A search of the river turned up no sign of Drexel. So far, that's been the only clue in the case of the missing girl.

Thursday night, Charleston County Sheriff's Office Maj. John Clark says searchers asked for the county helicopter earlier Thursday to begin aerial mapping.
