    Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico early Wednesday as a powerful category 4 hurricane with winds of 155 mph.

    Maria will continue to pull away from Puerto Rico this morning. The mountains of the island have caused Maria to weaken considerably, but now that the hurricane is back over open water it has strengthened again with winds now at 115 mph.

    Five prostitution arrests were made in a matter of minutes in Myrtle Beach Wednesday. According to online records, police arrested five people between 4:52 p.m. and 4:55 p.m. in two different parts of Myrtle Beach.

    In an age of weather alerts on smartphones, tweets from around the globe, and continuous weather coverage, it’s hard to imagine how coastal residents of the past were kept informed about hurricanes and other dangerous weather. In the 1890s, it was rockets, not push alerts or texts, that alerted Georgetown residents to approaching hurricanes.
