PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A building in Pender County is being used to train dogs, but it's not the building you may think.
Thursday, the dogs and their trainers graduated from a new program at Pender County Correctional Institute.
The program is called Pawsitive Partners, and it paired seven prisoners with five dogs for training.
The dogs were from shelters, and now thanks to the inmates, they're all obedient pups that are headed to loving homes.
"It has changed me. It gave me more patience and more understanding as far as an animal. We think that we know the correct way to work with animals, but we don't. Through this program we learned the correct way, it really works," said prisoner Jeffery Lane.
