COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A special legislative panel has scheduled a meeting to examine the fallout from two South Carolina Supreme Court decisions dealing with the state's Freedom of Information Act. Members of the state Senate's FOIA Study Committee will be talking today about the court's ruling that autopsies are medical records and therefore fall under privacy provisions of the open records law.
ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia state troopers say they're launching a 72-hour crackdown on unsafe commercial vehicle drivers on Interstate 85. Officials say that the initiative begins today and troopers will participate in high visibility enforcement along a 178-mile stretch of the freeway between Alabama and South Carolina.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A legislative committee created to figure out a way to fix South Carolina's crumbling roads is scheduled to meet for the first time. The 13-member bipartisan committee meets this afternoon at the Statehouse. It was created by Senate and House leaders.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is making his first visit to South Carolina, the home of the GOP's first presidential primary in the South. Christie is visiting today as chairman of the Republican Governors Association, attending a pair of fundraisers for Gov. Nikki Haley and a governor's association event.
