Pornographic pics lead to arrest of Mullins HS coach

Posted: Updated:

MULLINS, SC (WMBF) - A judge has set bond at $35,000 Wednesday for a Pee Dee football coach accused of showing pictures of his genitals to a 16-year-old student.

Gregory Hill, 29, of Latta, turned himself in to authorities around 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to Mullins Police Chief Kenneth Davis. Davis said Hill has been charged with nine counts of disseminating harmful material to a minor.

"It's kind of scary to send your children and grandchildren to school," said Barbara Harness. Her grandson was a student of Mr. Hills' last year. She says this situation makes it hard to trust teachers.

"You don't really know what's going to happen to them on the bus or even at school anymore."

An arrest warrant issued by the State Law Enforcement Division alleged Hill showed a 16-year-old Mullins High School student a pornographic picture of himself during school hours on Aug. 24. The student further claimed to investigators that Hill showed her nine pictures of his genitals, in all.

An arrest warrant stated Hill had asked the teen not to disclose that he had shown her the inappropriate pictures.

SLED officials said the 29-year-old later confessed he had taken several inappropriate pictures on his cell phone and showed the teen a pornographic image of himself.

Marion School District 2 Superintendent Michael Lupo said the coach was placed on administrative leave on Aug. 26, pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into the allegations.

"I can assure you that the district takes seriously its obligation to protect and provide a safe environment for all students," Lupo said in a statement released Wednesday. "Under no circumstances does the district condone or tolerate any inappropriate conduct between an employee and a student."

Hill was a global studies teacher and the athletic director at Mullins High School. This was his first year at the school.

He previously taught at Palmetto Elementary School and Palmetto Middle School.
