NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Three people have pleaded guilty in relation to an attack on two homosexual men in downtown Wilmington last year.

Investigators say the victim's sexual orientation was a reason they were targeted in the beating.

Daniel Minwoo Lee pleaded guilty to two counts of assault inflicting serious bodily injury in the beating of Chaz Housand and Chet Saunders on Front Street last July.  Lee's sentencing has been delayed, since he gave a statement against the two other suspects in the case.

Melvin Spicer also pleaded guilty to two counts of assault inflicting serious bodily injury.  Spicer was immediately sentenced to 36 months probation, with a 15 to 18 month suspended sentence.  He also has to pay $5,000 in restitution to victim Chaz Housand.

A third man, Jong Chung, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault inflicting serious bodily injury.  He will serve 120 days and then the remainder of thirty six months on probation.  He will also have a 15 to 18 month suspended sentence.  Chung also has to pay $5,000 in restitution to Housand.  He begins serving his sentence on June 14th.

Lee faces a maximum sentence of five years in jail.
