DeMint introduces legislation to repeal health care

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (WMBF) - Hours after President Barack Obama signed into law a $938 billion heath care overhaul, U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) is firing back with an introduction of legislation to fully repeal his move.

A total of 12 Republican leaders in Washington have co-sponsored the bill as of Tuesday afternoon, including fellow South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, Sens. Robert Bennett (R-UT),  Kit Bond (R-MO), Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), Mike Crapo (R-ID), John Ensign (R-NV), Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX), James Inhofe (R-OK), George LeMieux (R-FL), James Risch (R-ID), Pat Roberts (R-KS) and David Vitter (R-LA).

DeMint continues his fight by reinforcing the fight against the nearly $1 trillion legislation is not over, noting there are multiple solutions lawmakers cam implement to expand health care freedom and choices.

"This bill will force taxpayer funding of abortions, raise health costs, hike taxes, cut Medicare, raid Social Security and put bureaucrats between patients and their doctors," DeMint alleged. "This fight isn't over yet. Republicans are standing with the American people who are demanding we repeal this intolerable act."

South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster is also joining in on the fight against health care, along with 12 other attorneys general across the U.S.

The group filed a lawsuit in federal court in Pensacola Tuesday to help stop the massive health care overhaul, claiming it's unconstitutional.
