CHARLOTTE, NC – VMI's Felix Kitur and Jaime Watson of Liberty have been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's and Women's Indoor Track Athletes of the Week, respectively, the League announced Wednesday.
Kitur, a junior from Eldoret, Kenya, clocked in at 1:50.38 to win the 2010 IC4A Championship in the 800-meter event on March 7. He crossed the line three-tenths of a second ahead of Nick Wade from Cornell. The race was a showdown of 28th-ranked Kitur and 19th-ranked Donte Holmes of Delaware State.
Watson, a redshirt senior from Ravenna, Mich., improved her NCAA provisional time by posting a time of 2:05.42 in the qualifying round of the 800-meters at the ECAC championships in Boston over the weekend.
Her time set the Big South and Liberty records in the event and qualified her for the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championship.
