Casino boat brings string of luck to Grand Strand unemployed

Little River, SC -

LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) - Hundreds across the Grand Strand could soon be dealt a new hand of cards as the former owners of Sun Cruz Casinos announced a mass hiring blitz Monday.

Nearly 200 positions will be up for grabs as the Coastal Workforce Center begins interviewing applicants for a new casino boat company at 10 a.m. on March 11. The interviews will take place at the former Sun Cruz Casino Port on Mineola Avenue in Little River.

"We're pleased to be returning to what had become our No. 1 port and thrilled to be able to provide several hundred quality jobs to an area that's been so hard hit by the recession," said Robert Weisberg, chairman of the new casino cruise operation. "We have a lot of jobs to fill in a short time."

Weisberg says officials with the new casino venture have been working hand-in-hand with members of the Horry County Council, including Harold Worley and Administrator John Weaver.

Twenty-eight different types of jobs will be up for grabs, some of which will be featured at a separate Casino Cruise Job Fair on Thursday and next Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"Job qualifications vary, but management has insisted that all positions require individuals with an outgoing, friendly personality," Michelle Pickering, spokeswoman for the Coastal Workforce Center, added. "Each individual will be required to complete a generic application on site at the Fair. Additional applications will be made available at all three area local workforce centers in Conway, Myrtle Beach and Georgetown."

Additional details about the arrival of the Grand Strand's newest casino boat are expected to be released within the week, including dining, entertainment and on-board game line-ups.
