From the Big South Conference:
CHARLOTTE, NC – High Point junior outfielder Nate Roberts and Gardner-Webb pitcher Adam Izokovic have been named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Player of the Week and The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played March 1-7, it was announced Monday by the League office.
Roberts hit .615 (8-13) with eight runs scored, eight runs batted in, three home runs, two stolen bases, a .688 on-base average and a 1.308 slugging percentage in High Point's three-game sweep over Towson this past weekend. He went 5-5 in the series opener with three home runs and six runs batted in. His three homers came on five pitches, and he also had two singles and three runs scored.
On Saturday, he was 2-4 with two RBI, three runs scored and two steals, and also threw out a runner at home in the first inning. In Sunday's series finale, Roberts reached base twice and scored twice.
Izokovic recorded a 0.75 ERA in 12 innings in relief, and was Gardner-Webb's workhorse in two extra-inning games last week. In GWU's 12-inning loss at USC Upstate Wednesday, he was the hard-luck loser despite allowing just three hits and one run in four innings of work, with three strikeouts.
Two days later, Izokovic delivered eight innings of one-hit, shutout relief to pick up the win in Gardner-Webb's 15-inning victory at Wofford. He fanned a career-best six hitters and retired 17 batters in a row until a one-out walk in the 15th inning, after which he settled down to retire the side and get the win.
Izokovic's line last week: 2 GP, 1-1, 0.75 ERA, 12 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 5 BB, 9 SO, .100 opponents' batting average.
