
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Long Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra will soon be presenting its winter concert, "Music from Stage and Screen."
The performance will feature selections from ballet, opera, Broadway and films, as well as orchestral selections made famous in the movies. It will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Myrtle Beach High School Music and Arts Center. Admission is free.
Some guest artists will also be featured during the concert. Bethany Stearns-Miller, clarinet (LBS Principal Clarinet), along with Guest Soloist, Lisa Jennings, soprano, will be performing. In addition, Litchfield Dance Arts Academy solo dancers Tia Sandman and Norbert Nirewicz will be performing the ballet portion of the program.
The program consists of: selections from Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra used in the movie, "2001"; highlights from the Broadway musical; Wicked; Debussy's Claire de lune used in the movie, "Ocean's Eleven"; Manicini's Theme from The Pink Panther; "O mio babbino caro" from the opera, Gianni Schicchi used in the movie, "Room with a View"; Tchaikovsky's "Pas de Deux" from The Nutcracker; "Intermezzo" from the opera, Cavalleria Rusticana used in the movie, "Raging Bull"; "Colonel Bogey March" used in the movie, "Bridge over the River Kwai"; Mozart's Clarinet Concerto: 2nd Movement used in the movie, "Out of Africa"; and Star Wars Medley.
There will also be a dessert and coffee social immediately following the concert. Tickets for the dessert are $5. All the money raised will be used to support activities of the Youth Orchestra.
