CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department says Anthony L. Simpson told family members he wanted to be the "next Michael Vick."
Simpson, 18, does have at least one thing in common with the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback. He is serving time in jail and could face more after being charged with operating a dog fighting ring in Fayetteville.
Detectives say Simpson ran the ring out of the back yard of his grandmother's home. Investigators seized four dogs and said the wounds on the animals are consistent with dog fighting. Two of the dogs were put down and the others are receiving care. One of the dogs who survived lost its ears as a result of the fights, according to police.
Vick also served jail time after getting charged with running a dog fighting ring.
Simpson, who is already serving jail time for an unrelated charge, faces four counts of dog fighting and baiting.
