MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Softballs will be flying once again in Myrtle Beach as the World Fastpitch Connection announced its Class World Series will be heading back to the Grand Strand in 2010.
Close to 100 teams -- in addition to players, families and coaches -- will arrive in Myrtle Beach on August 2 to compete in the seven-day competition. The tournament had an approximately $6 million economic impact on the City of Myrtle Beach in 2009, as host of the WFC Early Signing Showcase in November, the WFC Battle at the Beach and the 2009 WFC World Series.
Despite economic roadblocks, World Fastpitch Connection officials say they were sitting at a 5 percent participation increase in 2009.
"WFC is ecstatic about the City of Myrtle Beach and its efforts to continue to expand the sports tourism industry," an official announcement read on Monday. "We are now working with the new bid process the City of Myrtle Beach has laid out for the new dates starting in 2011."
