CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The field for the Republican nomination in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District is getting smaller.
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Henry Brown says he won't seek re-election this year to spend more time with his family. And Mark Fava, who was challenging Brown for the GOP nomination, will not be making the race, either.
Fava, an attorney in the Navy Reserve, says he's been asked to make an additional commitment to the Navy this spring. That obligation, he says, will interfere with his ability to mount a campaign in the district which runs along the coast from near Charleston to the North Carolina state line.
Two other Republicans - and three Democrats - have announced for the nomination.
