COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - Lt. Governor Andre Bauer will honor a senior citizen with the Outstanding Older South Carolinian Award.
The award is being presented to Norma Curtis at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Statehouse. In action and spirit, Norma Curtis epitomizes the award, which is given annually by the Lt. Governor's Office on Aging, said Bauer.
A spokesperson for Bauer says Curtis is active in numerous community, civic, and non-profit organizations, including the Silver Haired Legislature.
Curtis is also a member and chair emeritus of the SC Advisory Council on Aging, and serves on Bauer's Commission for Aging Research and Evaluation. She also served as one of South Carolina's delegates to the National White House Conference on Aging. She is a director of Senior Shield.
For eight years, she chaired the McCormick County Senior Center Board of Directors. She also chaired the AAA Advisory Board for the Upper Savannah Council on Governments and served on the Planning Committee for the Senior Sports Classic at Upper Savannah COG. She was a volunteer at the Senior Sports Classic in McCormick and Greenwood.
Curtis is also a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto in recognition of her volunteer work for seniors, which included among many other activities driving a van for 20 years for the McCormick Senior Center.
She is active in McCormick United Methodist Church, and is a volunteer for Honor Flight South Carolina.
