FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Construction of a fitness trail at Iola Jones Park in Florence is moving forward, city officials announced Monday.
Throughout the past year, the City of Florence has worked with seniors of Iola Jones Park to provide residents a place to walk and improve their fitness.
The city initiated the construction of the proposed 1/4 mile trail within the 4.6 acre park. City Councilman Steve Powers and Florence County Councilman Al Bradley presented the $21,175 in funding needed for the trail's permanent asphalt surface of the trail to the Florence City-County Conference Committee.
The approval of additional funding, up to $10,587.50 per leader, would be awarded from infrastructure funds in Florence County.
Officials with the City of Florence say they will administer the project to be constructed by Palmetto paving. Upon completion of the asphalt surface, the city will continue to develop the trail with landscaping, fence borders and benches.
