Norbert Ryan, 32, of Myrtle Beach is charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. At the time of his arrest, Ryan was an eighth-grade social studies teacher at the middle school.
Horry County Schools spokeswoman Teal Britton said Ryan resigned Monday, effective immediately.
"His resignation means that the Horry County Board of Education will not need to take action tonight to terminate his employment," Britton said in a press statement Monday afternoon.
Horry County Schools Superintendent Dr. Cindy Elsberry says the district first learned of the alleged relationship with the 13-year-old after the girl's parents contacted school officials. Following an investigation, Ryan was placed on administrative leave and was sent home.
Ryan remains on house arrest and will be tracked by authorities with a GPS monitoring system.
