CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Assault charges have been dropped against Jon Beason.

Lawyers for the Carolina Panther's linebacker said the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's office dismissed the case on Friday.

The district attorney's office said there simply wasn't enough evidence to prosecute.

The charges were filed by 29-year-old Gregory Frye who claims Beason punched him during a fight at a strip club called the Uptown Cabaret on Sunday, Nov. 15.

According to the lawsuit, Beason got angry when Frye told others he believed he saw Beason snorting cocaine.  The suit says Beason knocked Frye so hard, Frye fell to the floor.

Frye, however, still plans to file a civil suit.
